Tira-Gosto is a series of meetings promoted by Casa Oxente, where art, culture and good conversations come together around a common theme: the Brazilian Northeast and its popular expressions. In this special edition, we will delve into the universe of Northeastern June Festivals, exploring their cultural roots, symbolic meanings and transformations as they cross oceans and borders.
Our guest is John L Halley — artist, researcher and master in cinema, with training in performing arts and performance in Brazil and Portugal. Currently a doctoral student, he is dedicated to the theoretical and practical research of popular arts and Brazilian folklore. With his experience between stages, cameras and traditional communities, João will lead a lively and provocative conversation about:
- Evolution of June festivals in Brazil and the Northeast;
- External and internal influences on the construction of popular celebrations;
